Pjila’si! Welcome to Science & Innovation at the Ulnooweg Education Centre.

Our mandate is to provide fun and engaging educational programs and activities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) for Indigenous youth in Atlantic Canada.  Our programs have a community-first mindset and are then created and developed by our dedicated Educational Team. We work with esteemed partners such as to support the growth and development of these programs.

We engage youth in STEAM through interactive and hands-on learning that provides a depth of skill and knowledge that works best in their learning environments. These programs are created for a variety of delivery models through in-class programs, camps, clubs, and community centres. We take pride in providing additional educational experiences to inspire Indigenous youth to pursue STEM through special events, inspirational guest speakers, and experiential field trips.

Science & Innovation Programs

This interactive digital skills-based curriculum series is focused on introducing Indigenous students in grades 4-12 to with the core fundamentals of Creative Computing, Animation and 3D Modeling.

In combination with the versatile and ever-popular Dash Robots, this hands-on curriculum series focuses on advancing numeracy skills and mashing it up with the foundations of learning in robotics and coding. Teachers will gain valuable skills in effectively utilizing digital devices like Dash, while gaining experience in coding and robotics.

From building garbage-sorting robots to exploring fields of applied oceanic science, the Project-Based Science program offers advanced educational opportunities for youth to explore science in a fun and unique way while helping to build skill advancement in STEAM career paths.

Establishing or enhancing youth-oriented spaces by providing the educational tools to support ongoing learning and student-led initiatives in community.

The STEAM Pre-Collegiate Program is an advanced education program for Indigenous youth in grades 9-12 living in Atlantic Canada. As an academic enrichment program, this offers students a chance to explore topics they are passionate about while forming a community of brilliant peers, mentors, and instructors. Students will see first-hand what industry professionals are doing today and dive into cutting-edge topics in STEAM.
